罗尔斯-罗伊斯公布电动垂直起降飞行器概念

A few days ago, Rawls - Royce announced the concept of EVTOL electric vertical take-off and landing at the airport. The EVTOL project is an important part of Rawls Roy's strategy of electrification. It aims to build a leading industrial technology company in the world. The conceptual design is based on the experience accumulated by Rawls - Royce in the oil and electric hybrid system of the train ships, accommodates its expertise in the gas turbine, vertical take-off and landing technology, system analysis, and aviation regulations and certification, and is an example of Rawls Royce's technological innovation and system integration capability. The commercial application of EVTOL also requires close cooperation with aircraft manufacturers and a series of strategic partners in the electrical system.

The EVTOL concept aircraft powered by gas turbine technology provides power for six specially designed low-noise electric thrusters. The aircraft is also equipped with energy storage batteries. Using a hybrid EVTOL configuration, the aircraft can carry four to five people, flying uninterrupted about 500 miles at a speed of up to 250 miles an hour, during which the battery is charged through a gas turbine and can use existing facilities such as the apron and the conventional airport.

The wing of an aircraft can rotate 90 degrees to achieve vertical takeoff and landing. Once it reaches the cruising altitude, the propeller on the wing can be folded to reduce drag and engine noise. After that, the aircraft relies on two rear propulsion propellers to provide thrust. With the intensification of urbanization, increasing population density has caused tremendous pressure on conventional transportation systems. EVTOL provides a new possibility for efficient and low personal air traffic.

The initial EVTOL concept aircraft adopts M250 gas turbine, which is embedded in the rear part of the aircraft, and is converted into a part of the hybrid electric propulsion system. M250 is a highly successful engine of Rolls Royce. Since its operation half a century ago, it has delivered more than 31 thousand units and has about 16 thousand units in active service. The M250 engine provides power for more than 170 different types of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. The total flight time of the whole fleet exceeds 200 million hours.
