Instead of being confused by the obvious gold rush, Airbus rushed to market its flying cars. Airbus's project, known as Vahana, plans to become another fully automated, unmanned, all-electric VTOL. The idea is to save money on hiring trained and experienced pilots. Since autopilot software is quite mature at this time, it should not be difficult for successful enterprises of Airbus size to achieve this goal.
The Vahana project will also bring other benefits, such as maintenance. When necessary, the aircraft can automatically fly to a special location for maintenance and upgrading. Airbus seems to be progressing quite smoothly, completing its first successful flight test in early 2018.
