The safety of flying cars is always worrying. Although Geely Transition claims to have passed the safety tests of the US Aviation Administration and the Department of Defense, the overall safety factor in the flying car market is still volatile. Recently, according to foreign media reports, a hybrid prototype vehicle named Detroit Flying Cars (WD-1) accidentally crashed to the ground during flight testing, injuring its staff during driving. Perhaps for safety reasons, currently in the United States, some of the approved flying cars can only be used in the suburbs.
The follow-up of infrastructure construction also takes time. On the one hand, the construction of the apron needs to consider traffic, environment, humanities, fire protection and other factors, but also consider the impact of severe weather such as gale, snow, hail and so on. On the other hand, the matching supply of fuel and battery is also a problem. Zach Lovering, head of the Vahana AV project at Airbus, said that the current power supply capacity of the batteries for flying cars is not long-lasting enough. "According to battery power consumption, the number of people who can afford to use the batteries for flying cars is 2-5. It is expected that the progress of battery research and development will grow at an annual rate of 8%.
Despite the advantages of price and convenient travel experience, the shared travel of flying cars has not yet formed a clear business model. Some media pointed out that under the current technological conditions, shared aircraft with universal potential has not yet appeared. Therefore, the implementation of flying cars still has a long way to go.
Flying cars represent the ultimate system integration challenge and are a combination of engineering, supervision and network management. Players are still bumping forward in trial and error. At present, it seems that under the interweaving of many challenges, the flying car may have to "fly a little longer" before landing.(文/飞行汽车 www.feiauto.com)
