Boeing, excellent step and Airbus join Japan's flying car alliance

The emergence of the flying car industry has changed dramatically as governments seek to take advantage of emerging technologies. Recently, the Japanese government announced a firm commitment to develop aircraft and combine aircraft with public transport.

The Ministry of trade and transport plans to call for industry leaders to streamline research and development. The group will comprise 21 organizations and companies from the following areas: automotive, aircraft manufacturing and commercial aviation.

"The Japanese government will provide appropriate support to help realize the concept of flying cars, such as enacting acceptable rules," the Tokyo Trade Ministry said.

Flying automobile Alliance

The Japanese government has listed companies that will participate in the local AVU, including Youbo, Boeing, Airbus, Nikko Holdings and Artivator (a Toyota-backed start-up). Delegates have discussed the group's plans, which has led to the formulation of the road map.

To support the upcoming projects, the Department of supervision will allocate funds to the group. Japan's Times Ministry of Economy and Industry has approved $40.4 million for the development of flying car parts, such as batteries, motors and other equipment (according to the Japan Times).

In addition, in order to create a prosperous ecosystem for flying car developers, the Japanese government intends to launch a supportive regulatory environment for companies involved in the alliance. Officials will also promote infrastructure projects to ensure that developers do not lack the ability to innovate and test prototypes.

Yasuo Hashimoto, a researcher at the Japan Aeronautical Management Institute in Tokyo, said: "The government needs to take the lead in setting safety standards and coordinating them."

"They are trying to set the tone for other sectors of the industry."

Application of Japanese flying cars

Japan is famous for its advanced technology in many fields such as automobile, semiconductor and consumer electronics. Therefore, it is not surprising that the government regards flying cars as a solution to the problem of heavy traffic in urban areas. According to Hiroshige Seko, Japan's economy minister, compact aircraft can provide a low-cost way to transport to remote mountains.

Seko also believes that flying cars can provide emergency evacuation services for locals living in remote islands. Such applications are useful for Japan, which is home to many active volcanoes (about 10% of the world's active volcanoes are in the country) and has suffered from a few deadly earthquakes and tsunamis in the past few decades.

For the tourism sector, Japan plans to combine flying cars with upcoming events. Cartivator, a prominent member of the country's newly formed flying coalition of automobiles, is developing a Skydrive that will light the Olympic flame in Tokyo in 2020.

"By 2050, our goal is to create a world in which anyone can fly anywhere and anytime," Cartivator said.

"In order to realize our vision, compact flying vehicles are necessary, using vertical take-off and landing technology, without the need for road and runway lift-off."

Flying cars are also developing rapidly. Do their partners expect the day to come?
