English version
With the passage of time, people began to question why the flying car did not appear. This is a disappointment with reality, which cannot satisfy the most exciting predictions of the future. Of course, our pockets can hold minicomputers and speakers on the workbench can tell jokes, but our cars are still four-wheel-drive.
This situation may soon change. Really? Over the past decade, a series of innovations have emerged in technologies once known as "flying cars"; now they are vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles or air taxis. They were built by scattered start-ups and traditional aerospace companies. These start-ups come from Silicon Valley, Pittsburgh, Slovenia and China. No technology billionaire's portfolio is complete unless he invests in a car that can run in the sky.
If the most ambitious predictions are accurate, people in some places will laugh at people who are stuck in traffic jams on the ground in the next five years. But the most ambitious predictions are rarely accurate. More likely, it will take decades for flying cars to become popular. If that were true, they would not be what we now imagine.

Sanjiv Singh, a research professor at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, said: "Ordinary people usually think of a world similar to the movie The Jasons. Cars take off from their lanes and take them to their destinations. This kind of vehicle runs in densely populated and very complex areas.
Singh said: "The first thing we see is that automatic flying vehicles deliver goods to remote areas or relief supplies to hard-to-reach disaster areas. Where a road is destroyed by a hurricane or an earthquake, supplies are unavailable due to power outages and road damage.
Once flying cars enter the city, they will look more like helicopters or human-sized UAVs. They take off vertically from one apron and land on another. In the early days, there would be a pilot, but human pilots would eventually be replaced by a more reliable and profitable automatic flight system.
"They will be an element of the multimodal transport experience," said Robin Lineberger, Deloitte's head of aviation and defence. "But they can't solve the problem of the first mile and the last mile of the journey"
This kind of flying car can drive on the road and fly in the air, and can be parked in the garage, but only the super-rich can afford it. This is not just because they are expensive, but also because users need the ability to maintain, store and land, which requires more than just a lane. "It's not for the masses," Lineberger said.
